Hey Folks,

I was reading an article recently about Indian beers. I do a lot of Indian cooking, some of the most complex recipes I've ever done, and have been looking for a beer that would go well with very spicy curries. I like lighter beers but will try any of them once. In this article, as well as local restaurants I have noticed that Cobra beer seems to be the most popular among the northern Indian style establishments, but I was visiting JJ's yesterday and it was nowhere to be found. Can anyone suggest a good Indian beer as well as a place where I may find Cobra? I've checked my local Indian Grocers here in Dayton, but no luck... I don't think they bother with liquor licenses since beer and wine doesn't seem to be extremely popular in their culture.

Thanks!

Oh, and here are their 2 websites:

http://www.kingfisherworld.com/

http://www.flykingfisher.com/

The commercial on Kingfisher world is quite in tune with the Indian culture....always great.

Hey Justin,

This reply looks to be about 2 years too late---but Kingfisher is the reason I found JungleJim's. A friend of mine told me this morning that the beer week drank almost daily during our 2 month stay in India is available through JJ's, and I could not believe it!

The only other place I've been able to find Kingfisher was in Vancvouer, BC. I'll admit I haven't looked very hard, but JJ's is close enough to some family and I expect I'll be drinking some Kingfisher within the next week or two.

It's great beer with a funny story behind it---

The Indian government doesn't allow alcohol manufacturers to advertise publically. When the new law was passed, the owner of Kingfisher purchased an entire Indian Airline, resulting in a fleet of planes with his logo on the side. Genious, if you ask me. I'm pretty sure you get free Kingfisher on during your flights.

Anyway---yes, if you haven't tried it in the past 2 years and you read this message, buy some.

Cobra beer has a website www.cobrabeer.com. Jungle Jim's has Kingfisher & Taj Mahal Indian beers. There may be others, I don't know.
