Today I was passing by the Richard's Fairfield location and decided to try one of those steak sandwiches you all have mentioned. It was certainly unusual (like White Castle) unusual. A hoagie shaped ground sirloin pattie on a toasted/buttered hoagie roll slathered with a pizza style sauce, covered in mild white onions, dill pickle slices and Jalepeno peppers. I didn't get the cheeses and other condiments A wonderful smell permeated my vehicle on the way home. I'd say it would be fairly easy to duplicate at home. Just purchase some ground sirloin, shape it like a hoagie roll and grill it. Split an toast the hoagie roll, butter it and spread some pizza sauce on it. Add the condiments of choice and you've got something pretty close.

I'm from Fairfield too (now in Florida) and Richard's steak sandwiches and Gold Star Chili are about the only I miss from home (certainly not the weather)!! Last Christmas I ordered frozen sandwiches from Richard's and had them delivered to Houston to share with my mom and sis. They were great! Not like picking them up and riding home with that smell in the car but definitely the next best thing! Check their website - they offer the shipping service at Christmas but they may have extended it! It was great to share the smells and tastes again with my family!!! Enjoy!!!
