I want to know when you get in a fresh supply of vanilla beans. I like to make my own vanilla extract with vodka and vanilla beans. I was at your store one time and I saw a pile of vanilla beans in the produce section once. I haven't seen them since. I don't remember what time of year that was.

arsbadmojo- use vodka for "clear" extract, bourbon for "regular"- I use about 1 pint per bean, split the bean lengthwise, drop it in a clean jar, pour the booze over and let it steep for 6-8 weeks- strain, or not, use as you would any good quality extract (because you would NEVER use the bad stuff!)

Fenleykent - can you describe your extract making process? Are the vanilla seeds just soaked in the vodka for awhile then strained?

Vanilla Beans are in the Mexican section of International. Look for the demo cooking station at the end of aisles 10 & 11 in the International dept. Just around the corner you will find a pegboard. The vanilla beans are bagged and on the pegboard.
