Dave's Insanity, and others like it are meant to be added to stews, soups etc. and not to be eaten directly. When dilluted, these sauces add pepper flavor and heat and a bottle will last a couple of years. Frank's and Tobasco Green are good "barely hot" sauces for eating directly on food of all kinds. The ULTRA HOT sauces such as "The Source" are extracts and not really hot sauces. They are used to make Pepper Spray and by those crazies who want the ultimate endorfine rush. Most people don't know that the mash from which most of these sauces are made comes from central Indiana. See http://wildpepper.com for a list of pepper makers they supply. I prefer the Original Kick *** hot sauce with 3 drops of Nukin Futs added to Kick It Up a Notch.

Let me preferace this by saying i've never tried any of the 6 million scoville sauces that they've got in the locked cases at JJ's...
but certainly the hottest off the shelf stuff I've tried is the "mega death sauce." There's no listed scoville rating on it, but it's hot enough that just a smell will bring a tear to most peoples eye, and i've certainly found it to be hotter then dave's insanity sauce. It also has a nice "chiptle" smokey flavor as well. Eh Yo! |

I made my own Habanero relish several years back nobody could eat. Like a lot of the ultra hots (ingredents: Habaneros and vinegar) one tiny amount could heat a whole pot of stew. I've got some Tabasco Habanero (ranked 8 out of 10 in heat on one site I visited) that is good in Chili but a little much on eggs or as a dip. I'm getting some Dave's from the store next time I go, so I can get some super-hot experience.
How do you like your food? Hot Hot Hot! |
